Ask TKC #8: What Does It Take?

Hello again, and welcome to Ask TKC #8! I will be answering some questions that may cross some worker’s minds about In Lines, or to be a bit more specific; What exactly DOES it take to become iL? What is expected of you? I will be covering these questions up today, and hopefully it’ll help you to work your way up to becoming a Leader in the Kingdom!

What skills are needed to be an iL?

Good question! There are a few skills that I believe are “required” to become an iL, and everyone is able to develop them. So, what are these “required” skills that I am talking about? Well; Being able to handle situations maturely & responsibly is definitely an important skill. As an iL you will come across so many situations that you will be required to handle! Disrespectful members/non-members, argumentative people, trollers dancing & using coloured chat, members idling at stations etc. You will need to be able to control the situation well. Sounds like a lot to handle, right? I also believe that one of the skills is being confident! Of course, confidence doesn’t come easily, however it can be built. You should have confidence for using the disciplinary system when needed, using RR, teaching members how to do things they haven’t been able to, etc. All that stuff! Also, do not be afraid to make mistakes! If someone tries to bring you down with their opinion about how you’ve “failed” and “made mistakes”, do not be bothered by it :) You are human, and everyone makes mistakes, it’s life.

“Don’t let the noise of others’ opinions drown out your own inner voice”

Along with those skills, I think being able to log everything when needed is very important. Keep in mind, you will need to remember to log every ban (Even the 1 hour bans), every warning, every promotion & training etc.

What will change when members become iLs?

Well, members without a doubt will gain much more responsibility and have many other jobs! Members’ will have the Founders trust, as Leaders to guide & lead members in KoH to the right direction. Once you become iL you will be required to completing Quests weekly, which I will get onto in further detail on a different question, you will be required to watch over base, make sure everything is running fine, accept badges & also deny requests. Being iL is not as easy as you might think it is!

What do founders look for in members when promoting to iL?

There are so many things Founders look for whilst promoting someone into iL, but I believe that the most important thing is probably: hard work and good effort. Here are some more things that they look for:

  • Working well with other members

  • Good communication skills

  • Putting a lot of effort and dedication into your work at KoH

  • Always giving a positive image of yourself

  • Being able to handle situations well, such as trolls.

  • Being yourself

On the other hand, here are the things that the Founders probably don’t want when promoting into iL:

  • Immaturity, I’m sure we want our iLs to be as mature as possible!

  • Causing ‘drama’ in base all the time

  • Using excessive caps, swearing, and using coloured chat, tut tut!

  • Breaking rules

What tips do you have for members wanting to be an iL?

Work hard, reach your goals! Being an iL is hard work, but it is also an amazing experience, so I just say, try your hardest! You can try talking with the Founders and getting to know them a bit more, but do not make it look like you are desperate just to become iL. Actually make good relationships with them, along with any members around you! Making friends is a great start, you will be seen as a lovely & kind person in the community :3 Throw in some compliments to your fellow workers from time to time!

Try joining teams, and be dedicated to them!

Be responsible, mature, and positive! Those are the key things that should help you with becoming iL.

Of course, make sure you are still yourself through this. Be you. Do not act like someone you are not, just to become iL. I don’t know about you, but I think that being yourself is one of the best ways to work up. You are unique, and that is one of the special things that is looked for!

Do remember though, that you should never ask to become iL. This will only lower your chances, and nobody wants that, right?

Anyone can become iL, as long as they do their very best :) Believe in yourself!

What does a typical day look like from an iL?

Hmm...Typical day…

Watching over base and making sure that everything is going well is one of the typical things. Making sure no one is breaking rules, making sure that members are doing everything well & informing if they have made a mistake, and of course, leading members in the right direction.

As an iL you will also be doing quests/report log, and you will be required to fill it in every day, filling out the things that you have done according to what has been set for you!

Accepting badges when needed, answering important questions that members are eager to ask.

What about a typical week?

An iL has to do and fill out a Weekly Report Log. They will be set 6 quests they are expected to complete within that week, and evidence of the quests being completed is required. Here is an example of one quest:

  • Encourage members in FTS to converse between each other when no one is coming through security

Of course, there are so many other quests that are set, and they are different depending on which iL rank you are at (5iL, 4iL, 3iL, 2iL).

At the General Meetings, two iLs will be asked to hold the promotions at the first meeting, and two different iLs at the second! Along with the General Meetings, iL meetings are held every week on a Sunday at 8pm GMT. If an iL member is unable to attend the meeting, they are to post a Missed Meeting Summary! Most iLs Lead/Co-Lead a team(s)! They will be responsible for holding any meetings regarding that team, responsible for the members in the team, ensure everyone is doing the jobs required in that team.

And of course! Making every member and worker happy!

Hopefully I have answered the questions well, and it has helped you! Thank you for reading!
