Ranks Brought to Life #5
Here I am stood right in front of the Queen, a crazy, dangerous day led to the ultimate promotion. It all started when the Prince and Princess gave me a very important task…
“We need you to take this confidential letter to the Queen, she visited our allies and is now stuck there because of an ongoing battle.” They said.
I went home and packed my leather rucksack full of treats and tools. I was feeling more anxious than proud like I was before, the real danger had sunken in. I was going out into the Gyth Battle, I didn’t know what to expect…
A guard took me to the grand gate the next morning. I was given a beautiful white horse with delicately plaited hair, something only royalty could experience. I mounted on and received a concerned look and a nod from the guard, signalling my time to go. I galloped away from the Kingdom, constantly looking back over my shoulder.
Day one was mostly just scenic hills and mountains, undisturbed nature surrounded by wildlife and a variety of birds overhead. It’s the worst thing that could have happened to me at that moment in time, tricking into believing this journey would be easy.
Journeying into the night, trekking through a valley when I was startled by a large boom sound, a type of explosion. My horse galloped faster as we were passing through the valley and I started to see smoke rising and heard yells coming from the distance. Everything was becoming louder as I was moving through the valley, I was getting closer to when I would see the battlefield. I came to a cliff edge and when I looked down, it was just chaos. A large muddy flatland with horses and mages, our kingdoms finest warriors against our deadliest enemies. I needed a plan to escape but I couldn't find the way out. I saw our Kingdom's tents on one side and decided that was the way to avoid the war. My horse carefully manoeuvred down the difficult terrain towards the red tents, we started galloping past wearing our Kingdom uniform making sure that I was left untouched. People were startled but gave us a cheer as we passed, it gave me hope that I could have done the task.
As my horse powered away as fast as it could, the noises and dreadful smells were because more and more distant. In the horizon I saw the allies building where the Queen was, I had to get the letter to her. I arrived at the guarded gates where I was examined by a very threatening gentleman.
"Please state your business" said the fearsome man.
I replied shakily, "I have a confidential letter I need to give to my Queen."
The gate was pushed open and a guard followed me through, tied up my horse and lead me through the grand door. I saw our Queen being comforted by servants and other members. I coughed to gain the attention of the crowd. I pushed past everyone. I hand the Queen the letter and wait for her to open it.
"Thank you ever so much my dear, you have set us free from the war! You have encountered great danger, no doubt. You will be rewarded for your adventure." Exclaimed the Queen.
I was confused until she held up the document, it was a letter of peace showing us that the war should finish as both sides were in agreement. My face filled with happiness as I wouldn't have to have encountered the battle again!
Later that afternoon I helped load the carriage up for the Queen ready to return back to the Kingdom. As I was loading in the last bag the Queen pulled me aside and said I would like to give you a promotion for your hard work, you deserve it. A smile couldn't have left my face, I rode back on my horse with my head high. I was ready for any further quests the Kingdom had to offer me.
