On a Cold Winter's Day

On a cold winter's day

As summer drifts into the distance,

winter seems to be here in an instant.

The falling snow needs no assistance,

To cover in white nearly all of existence.

There is one man who suffers the most,

His skin so pale he could be a ghost.

He truly has no reason to boast,

He is a servant first and foremost.

Going by the name of Peasant,

His personality is quite pleasant,

Always living in the present,

But not rich enough to eat pheasant.

Living with his family in the halls,

He works cleaning out the stalls,

It can get quite cold with stone walls,

Sometimes he wears a shawl.

Today he decided to go outside,

His wife and kids he left behind,

He didn't know the way, he needed a guide,

He had to be careful or he could have died!

Walking down the winding road,

There was no way to tiptoe,

The snow too deep, a heavy load,

With his feet he had to erode.

Never had he been so far,

It truly felt quite bizarre,

Quickly he moved, off-radar,

Even though he had no car.

It was then he reached a zoo,

Which caused a hulabaloo,

Because Peasant was cold and blue,

And the animals were too!

The giraffe with his usual face of gold,

Was instead looking rather cold,

The lion who is usually bold,

Looked like he was about to be sold.

With only a pound in his pocket,

Exchanged for a lousy locker,

Peasant walked like a rocket,

To try and stop it.

Buying needles and wool,

He took a bag full,

Maybe enough to fill a room full,

And off he went to push and pull.

Quickly his hands work,

It was really one of his quirks,

Soon he had a smirk,

Because his art would be a perk.

A hat for the rat,

A scarf for the giraffe,

Mittens for the kittens,

And pants for the elephants.

So much more did he make,

Even a body warmer for the snake,

He did not mind how long it would take,

Because cold animals made his heart ache.

In the end all was well,

The animals were warm and swell,

Home he went with a story to tell,

After stopping them from being unwell!
