A long time ago, there was an urban legend about a dragon, he was infamous for being evil, destroying villages, stealing foods from people and destroying their homes. Everyone was scared of him.

In a village there also lived a girl named Sarah, she was kind, generous and everyone loves her, she was a daughter of a farmer, having two older brothers, living in a small simple home but she couldn’t ask for more, having her family together, complete and happy is enough.

One day, as she was going out to buy some apples for her family, she took a short cut through the market to make it faster for her to go home. “I will just take this route, I remember Ben telling me this is the shortcut to the market.”

As she was going through the forest, everything seems to be getting darker, leaves from trees covering the sun rays and the sound of the rustling winds can only be heard. She gulped. “This is a bad idea...” she whispered to herself.

As she went through the forest, she suddenly heard a growl. She turned around and looked for the source of that sound. “Who is that?!” she asked with a strong voice.

It replied with a growl, “If you come near me, I’m going to hurt you!”

She saw a shadow from her left side and when she turned, she almost fell on her bottom as she cannot believe what she is seeing right now.

A Dragon. A big, black dragon, glaring down at her. “Scream and you will be burned with pain” he growled at her.

She was too scared to scream and move, she was frozen on her stop when she noticed something on the dragon’s shoulder. He’s bleeding. “You’re hurt” she whispered.

“What?” he roared at her.

“I ... I can help you with your wound.”

“I don’t need help from puny people like you” he snarled then he flinched from pain.

“Just let me help you and we are done!” she demanded on him suddenly cannot take any more of the dragon’s stubbornness.

Surprised by her outburst, he let her help him, nobody dared to screamed at him in anger, everyone was scared of him, but this little woman dared to scream at him. How interesting he thought.

After one hour, she finished helping him and noticed him staring at her. “Wha-what’s wrong?” she asked.

“I just find it weird that you’re not scared of me.”

I actually am! She thought but didn’t say them out loud “Why should I be?”

“Haven’t you heard the rumors about me?”

“I did but I was never fond of rumors anyway.”

“I see” silence befall upon them and then she asked.

“Where did you get the wound from?”

“Mob people attacked me.”

“Oh why?!”

“They caught me stealing some chickens on someone’s farm.”

“You should not do that …”

“Why can’t I have what I want?”

“Not everything can be given to us; we have to be content with what we currently have”

“I see…”

“Yes, that’s good” she nodded.

“How about this little one, be my friend and in exchange, I will protect you throughout your whole journey to the market.”

“You don’t have to protect me to be my friend, I will be one without an exchange” she smiled at him, becoming more at ease at him than before, he was not that bad at all, maybe is a little insensitive but other than that, he is nice.

He purred in appreciation and did a dragon smile, she laughed at him.

Throughout their journey, they have created a bond that no one can break, they found out that they have so many similarities like, they both love to eat, they are both not very social and more.

As they were laughing about something the dragon had said, the wind suddenly became strong, and a powerful source of energy can be felt in the air, and out of nowhere, a beautiful woman dressed in a white soft dress is standing before them.

“Hello Dragon” she said.

“Who are you?!” roared the dragon.

“I am Aleena, Goddess of Goodness and Faith, I have seen all of your activity and you have caused nothing but destruction on this planet, so I am giving you a penalty for this”.

She was about to bound the dragon with her spells when Sarah interrupted her and said, “Please wait! At least give him a chance! He is not what you think he is!” she pleaded.

“Very well then” said the Goddess.

Sarah was suddenly frozen in her spot and looked at dragon for helped.

“What did you do to her?!” roared by dragon.

“I am giving you a test, if you passed this, I can give you a chance of being freed from your penalty, BUT if you fail, she will be gone here.”

Out of nowhere, a beautiful blue fountain was placed on and Sarah was placed near it.

“This fountain is no ordinary, anything, or anyone who gets into this fountain will never be found again.”

“No!” the dragon said.

“Then you have to pass this, the question is, did you steal the chickens from a small family earlier?”

The dragon replied “N-no... I did not.”

The eyes of the Goddess glowed out of anger and said, “You have failed your test, you let your fear ran over the safety of your friend and for that, you lose her forever!”

Then Sarah was sent to the fountain pushing her in it and she went gone.

“NOOO!” Cried the dragon.

“Don’t let fear take over your heart” the Goddess said and she disappeared.

But the dragon did not notice that and kneeled in front of the fountain where Sarah disappeared. “Sarah, I promised to protect you but look at what happened to you, I’m so, so sorry” he cried. “From now own, I will protect you with my life by guarding this fountain and be with you here until I die thank you for everything that you’ve taught me, the friendship that you gave me, for everything…”

Ever since then, the dragon has always protected the fountain, waiting and hoping that Sarah might come back, and still forgive him for his mistake, until his last breath.
