What Would You Change?
This week, we will be discussing an important issue in everyday life – in Habbo and out in the big wide world – Change!
For this article, I got asked the question, “If you could change things in KoH, what would you change?”. I thought for ages about this question and realised the only way I could really think about what I would possible change, is to think about the reasons I joined KoH in the first place. What drew me in, and what keeps me coming back every day?
I found KoH by chance, stumbling into the place I would shortly call home. Before I joined, I decided to check out the website to see what kind of place this was. I was impressed by the layout of the website – especially the calendar! There were so many games, activities and meetings on there! This agency really seemed to have communication down and best of all – they had fun at the heart of the agency (which is always good in a game)! I then took a glance at the ranks. Wow. I LOVED the idea of races. Being put into groups that work together to win games and earn points to win the cup! What a unique idea! I’d never seen anything like it, and loved the idea of rewarding hard work, activeness in base and teamwork.
Over the course of my time here (and especially recently) there have been a lot of changes, for example, changing the way we train new members, discarding the races and getting rid of the Transfer Unit. As much as I realise why these changes were necessary, I believe that some of them have taken away a little bit of what makes KoH so unique. When I, myself was getting trained, I kept thinking how different and great the idea was to have an online training system. Unfortunately, people began to get banned for giving out the website to get on to the training so, obviously, this had to be changed. This was, no doubt, a hard decision for management but definitely the right call!
I completely understand why the races got taken away but it feels such a shame. The races were one of the many things about KoH that initially drew me in and made me want to become part of this wonderful community! They were one of the things that set our kingdom aside from any other agency on Habbo. I feel like we need to find a way to bring back the sense of kinship we had with the races cup and points syatem. I’m sure, with ideas from everyone at KoH we can come up with a solution that benefits everyone and brings back the competition! Don’t get me wrong, games alone are great, but everyone I have talked to in regards to this feel that they like working hard, especially when they are getting recognition for doing well as a team alongside their race-mates - even if that means they are getting rewarded for being the only KoH member that knows each lyric to every High School Musical song - .’We’re all in this together!’
Once I actually joined Kingdom of Habbo, I discovered the teams. In other agencies, a lot of the things that the teams do in KoH are allowed to be done by the members once they get promoted to a certain level and gain the right badges – much like Security and Training. I was sad to see the dispersal of the Transfer Unit as now people have to wait until they are in the Ranger division to get access to this. Even if they were in the transfer unit before the ranks switch. If I were to change something I would bring back Transfer Unit as all the people in that unit applied, studied the formula and took the test to get in. This showed a level of dedication and ambition not everyone may have as they simply get promoted through the ranks. The Events Team (hosting games in base each month) and The Kingdom Chronicles (an actually interesting agency blog) are so different from teams I’ve seen in other agencies; I would not change them at all!
A note to finish my jabbering for this week - there have been a lot of changes recently and management are grateful to everyone that has worked hard and made the transition to the new ranks, etc, easier! Due to some things having to get changed rather quickly we may find some bugs or bumps in the road but if we all keep coming up with ideas or changes to make KoH better (no matter how small), we can continue the great work we do in our wonderful, enchanting, unique, little kingdom – Kingdom of Habbo.
